Brother’s memory pushes medical student to strive toward research success

Nikit Venishetty, a Foster School of Medicine second-year student, was accepted in the 2022 American Medical Association Research Challenge. The research focuses on using novel colorectal cancer methods to increase screening adherence in Hispanic patients in El Paso and the other examines disparities in orthopaedic care among underserved patients, and strategies to combat these disparities.

“This research is important to me because my brother passed away due to Ewing’s Sarcoma. Seeing my brother go through cancer and knowing that many patients wouldn’t receive the same quality care motivated me to pursue research focusing on disparities in cancer and orthopaedic care.”- Nikit Venishetty
