of Workday

Texas Tech Health El Paso’s sixth annual Days of Service brought together 421 student, faculty, resident and staff volunteers to serve with 23 nonprofit and community organizations across El Paso.
Texas Tech Health El Paso volunteers demonstrated how small acts of care make a big difference in the Borderplex.
They presented health education at multiple YWCA wellness centers, supported animal rescue and adoption efforts with the El Paso Animal Services Center and Humane Society of El Paso, assisted families staying at the Ronald McDonald House, and helped improve homes and community spaces through Rebuilding Together and Habitat for Humanity. Volunteers also worked alongside organizations like Candlelighters of El Paso, Hospice of El Paso, Compadres Therapy, the Special Olympics, the Lee & Beulah Moore Children’s Home, the Kelly Center for Hunger Relief, and El Pasoans Fighting Hunger, all of which provide critical services for children and families facing medical and socioeconomic challenges.
Departments and student organizations worked side by side, reinforcing the university’s values of service and teamwork.
When the day’s work ended, those who served left behind more than cleaner parks and stocked shelves. They left the Borderplex so much stronger than they found it.
Held each April, Days of Service reflects the university’s mission to lend a helping hand. Throughout the week, volunteers served across the city in a wide range of capacities.
“Days of Service reminds us that being part of this university means being part of this community,” said Jose Manuel de la Rosa, M.D., professor and vice president for outreach and community engagement. “When our students, faculty and staff volunteer side by side, they’re modeling the compassion and commitment to service that define Texas Tech Health El Paso.”
